The Korea Meteorological Administration has already investigated that KOMPSAT-5 GNSS-RO data gave a positive impact in previous version of the global model (17km) based on Unified Model (UM). We also know that the KOMPSAT-5 is as good data as the COSMIC. In June 2018, the global model was updated with 10km resolution and so on. Therefore, it is necessary to re-evaluate the impacts of KOMPSAT-5 GNSS-RO data assimilation on the quality of the initial conditions and performance of current version of global model. Experiments were carried out during the summer of 2018, and the effects of GNSS-RO data on typhoon prediction were analyzed, with several typhoons affecting the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, KOMPSAT-5 GNSS-RO data became available in near real-time working with NOAA, UCAR and Korea Aerospace Research Institute from the end of May 2019. We analyse the possibility of using the operation through the impact assessment.
