Talk

In an ESA-funded study, EUMETSAT and the Wegener Center at the University of Graz perform an assessment of the data quality of commercial RO data provided by Spire Global’s 3U CubeSat constellation. This presentation describes the setup of the study and presents the first preliminary results obtained at EUMETSAT and Wegener Center.

We will show results of the statistical intercomparisons of Spire data with ECMWF short-range forecasts, ERA5 reanalysis data, as well as other RO missions, in particular, Metop/GRAS data. We discuss the characteristics of the RO data sets in terms of both first order as well as their vertical O - B correlation statistics. We further discuss the performance of the Precise Orbit Determination for the Spire CubeSats at EUMETSAT, compared to Spire orbits and velocities, and finally present preliminary results of excess phase and bending angle intercomparisons from applying EUMETSAT’s and Wegener Center's RO processing systems to the raw Spire data.
