| Dear GRAS SAF GTS User

Issued: 2010-04-14 07:58 UTC

We experienced a outage of GRAS level 1b data yesterday due to a transient 
outage of the GRAS instrument. Last occultation processed before the outage 
is dated 2010-04-13 14:24:05 UTC, and first occultation processed after the 
outage is dated 2010-04-13 19:31:44 UTC. Both times is instrument sensing times.

Dear all,

this is just to confirm that the processing of GRAS data has recovered as expected; GRAS level 1
data exhibits nominal quality again since about 19:25 UTC (corrected from 22:00 UTC) on 13. April 2010.
 As usual, bending angle flagging has been set to degraded for a longer period (until about 02:00 UTC).

Dear all,

an initial analysis of the GRAS instrument going into standby mode after a memory checksum error
at 14:30 UTC suggested that the problem was due to corrupted memory which should be recovered
by power cycling the instrument. This was performed during a Svalbard pass at 16:19UTC. The
absence of Memory Checksum Failures and "Memory scanning completed successfully" messages
during later passes confirmed that the memory corruption was indeed transient and successfully
cleared by the power cycling.

GRAS has been put into occultation mode again and delivers science data since 17:48 UTC; the
processing of the data commenced successfully. As usual, the Precise Orbit Determination will
require 4-6 hours until it has converged to nominal quality again. Based on our previous experience,
we therefore expect higher level products to be within nominal requirements for measurement times
around 23:00 UTC.

Note that the bending angle quality in the level 1b data products from GRAS will continue to be
flagged as degraded for at least 8 hours after the POD reset, i.e. until around 02:00 UTC.
