Description
Dear GRAS SAF GTS user Issued: 2010-05-17 10:45 UTC This Thursday, 2010-05-20, there will be an outage of GRAS SAF level 2 products due to maintenance of the GRAS instrument. Please see detailed message from EUMETSAT below. Forwarded message: Subject: GRAS Instrument software patch and data outage on 20th May 2010 Date: 2010-05-17 10:13 UTC From: Christian Marquardt Dear all, in the early morning on Thursday, 20th May 2010, we will patch the GRAS instrument's onboard software to improve the performance on the onboard orbit estimation. In the past, a glitch in the rejection of signals from unhealthy GPS satellites had caused the need to reset the receiver manually from the ground in two cases. The software patch should fix this misbehaviour. We will stop the dissemination of GRAS data shortly before the patch is going to be applied. While EUMETSAT has formally announced an outage of up to 24 hours starting for sensing times around 06:00 UTC, we will try to keep the outage as short as possible. We aim at resuming the data dissemination as soon as we have confirmed that the updated receiver firmware does not do any harm, and the operational processing has achieved nominal data quality after the unavoidable POD reset that goes along with switching the instrument off. I will keep you informed on the progress (and in particular on the data availability) during next Thursday. With kind regards, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany
