Changes to the Metop NRT products

TYPE:   NRT-GTS
Description
Dear ROM SAF GTS User

Issued : 2021-08-13 10:07 UTC

On 14 September 2021 EUMETSAT will change the GRAS Radio Occultation Level 1B processing (see details below). This is mainly to address two long-standing issues:

1) Cases with erroneous oscillations above 30 km
2) Cases with large unphysical deviations from the ECMWF model below 10 km

Consequently the data quality of the ROM SAF refractivity products (GRM numbers 01, 40, and 60) and the 1D-var products (GRM numbers 02-05, 41-44, and 61-64) will improve, and more profiles will be marked as nominal.

ROM SAF BUFR test data with these improvements (also containing the improved EUMETSAT bending angle) can be downloaded via anonymous FTP:

ftp ftp.dmi.dk

Login: anonymous
Password: <email>

The test data are located under romsaf/testBUFR_PPF5. At the moment only one day of data (from 22 July 2021) is available, but more days since 23 February 2021 can be provided on request.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions related to the data, or if you would be interested in more test data.

Kind regards
The ROM SAF Team
