NRT Notification Detail

Minor upgrade of the ROM SAF Spire production
DATE:   2023-02-01 10:17
TYPE:   NRT-GTS
Description
Dear ROM SAF GTS User

Issued : 2023-02-01 10:16 UTC

We plan a minor upgrade of the ROM SAF Spire near real-time (NRT) netCDF and BUFR files that will only affect the thinned ionospheric L2 bending angle (not the ionospheric corrected one). This change will make ROM SAF and EUMETSAT thinned bending angles in BUFR consistent.

Currently, by mistake, the thinned ionospheric L2 bending angle is the L2-extrapolated one provided to the ROM SAF by the EUMETSAT Secretariat. After the upgrade it will be the ‘raw’ L2 bending angle, also provided to the ROM SAF by the EUMETSAT Secretariat. The ‘raw’ L2 bending angle is already in the BUFR provided by the EUMETSAT Secretariat.

The plan is to make the upgrade on February 6, 2023. We do not expect this to have any influence on typical use at NWP centres (when using the ionospheric corrected bending angle). Please contact us if you have any questions.

We will send out another annoncement once the upgrade has been made.

Kind regards
The ROM SAF Team
