We are preparing the proposal for the activities for the ROM SAF for the next five years.

And related to this, we are trying to get an overview of the usage of ROM SAF products

available from the Product Archive: https://rom-saf.eumetsat.int/product_archive.php



Specifically, we are trying to gather information about the usage of Metop Offline and ICDR

(Interim Climate Data Record) products, and Sentinel-6 Non-Time Critical (NTC) products.

The Metop ICDR product extends the Metop CDR (Climate Data Record, obtained from reprocessing)

by using the same code to generate the ICDR such that the combined CDR+ICDR data record is

a homogeneous data record suitable for climate applications. Metop Offline products and

Sentinel-6 NTC products may evolve over time to include new science improvements and

minor bug-fixes, whereas the algorithms behind ICDR products do not change until the next

CDR is released. One thing we would like to get information about is whether Metop ICDR

products would cover the needs for users currently using Metop Offline products.

Background information about the different product types



Offline profile and gridded products from Metop:

- Bending angle, refractivity, dry temperature, temperature, humidity, pressure, surface pressure, tropopause height

- Gridded version of all the Metop profile products, including dry pressure and dry geopotential height

- The profile products are provided monthly, about the 20th in the following month.

- The gridded products are provided monthly, about the 25th in the following month.

ICDR profile and gridded products from Metop:

- The ICDR product type encompasses the same variables as the Metop Offline profile and gridded products.

- The ICDR is provided monthly, about the 20th - 25th in the following month.

NTC profile and gridded products from Sentinel-6:

- Refractivity, dry temperature, temperature, humidity, pressure, surface pressure, tropopause height

- Gridded version of all the Metop profile products, including bending angle, dry pressure and dry geopotential height

- The profile products are provided regularly, about 20-25 days after measurement.

- The gridded products are provided monthly, about the 25th - 30th in the following month.
