| Description |
| Dear GRAS SAF User, GPS Radio Occultation data encoded into BUFR by the GRAS SAF (GRAS), GFZ (GRACE-A, TerraSAR-X) and UCAR (COSMIC, SAC-C, C/NOFS) and disseminated via the GTS/EUMETCast, currently uses BUFR Edition 3. As from November 2012, Edition 3 will no longer be allowed on the GTS. Advance notice is given that we plan to move to BUFR Edition 4 for all GPSRO data before the end of 2011. Note that the change-over at the GRAS SAF, GFZ and UCAR will not be synchronised, so there will be overlap of Editions 3 and 4 for this data type for some period. Based on our experience with other data types, we are assuming this will be transparent to users (and indeed welcomed by some) but if this would cause you any problems, please let us know. Also do you need any prior notice of the (TBD) exact date of change, or sample Edition 4 BUFR files in advance of the change? Otherwise, there is no need to respond to this email. If there are no objections by mid August, Edition 4 will be brought into use for RO data with a few days notice, some time in this autumn. Best regards, The GRAS SAF Team |
