Description

Dear ROM SAF GTS User

Issued 2014-06-11 06:10 UTC

On June 9 data from Metop-A GRAS instrument suffered from clock processing issues and produced degraded GRAS level 1b (bending angle) data. The level2a refractivity products were also degraded and unfortunately not flagged accordingly.

For more details see the message from Christian Marquardt below.

Metop-B/GRAS products were not affected.

With kind regards
The ROM SAF Team

Subject: GRAS/Metop-A degraded data quality today (9 June 2014) between 02:50 and 18:40 UTC

Dear all,

today, 9 June 2014, our data processing for GRAS/Metop-A suffered from clock processing issues and produced degraded GRAS level 1b (bending angle) data between 02:50 and 18:40 UTC sensing time. During this period, systematic bending angle biases in the order of 5-7 microradians occurred at high altitudes, with opposite signs for rising and setting occultations. After discovering the problem, we reset the clock data handling, and data quality is back to nominal again.

Unfortunately, the data was *not* flagged accordingly. Downstream level 2 (refractivity) data as produced by the ROM SAF very likely also was affected. GRAS/Metop-B data had no issues.

I'd like to thank Sean Healy who made us aware of the problem (while Eumetsat celebrated a public holiday in Germany;-)

We apologize for the inconvenience this might have had on your side.

With kind regards,

Christian.
