Upgrade of NRT ROM SAF processing system on 2 June 2016 and 8 June 2016

The planned upgrade (see below) of the ROM SAF GPAC processing system related to the change of GRAS Level 1 products at the EUMETSAT Secretariat is rescheduled as follows:

1) The processing system will be updated from GPAC 0.4.0 to GPAC 0.4.1 on June 2.
This system upgrade consists of code changes related to the internal format which do not affect the quality and format of the operational Level 2 products. In addition, two minor issues related to the retrieval of refractivity will be fixed. The implication of this fix is that retrieved profiles of refractivity will be less smooth. As a result, the standard deviation will increase slightly and in the height range from 10 to 25 km it will change from about 0.50 % to 0.55 %.

2) EUMETSAT Secretariat has rescheduled their upgrade to the new PPF processor on June 8:

The new PPF processor is producing bending angles calculated by the geometrics optics (GO) method which is similar to the algorithm used in the current PPF.
The refractivities produced from the new bending angles are currently being validated by the ROM SAF. Preliminary results indicate that the standard deviation of the new refractivity data is changing to about 0.6-0.7%. The further validation of the new data is ongoing and we will provide an updated report when we understand the change in standard deviation.
