NRT Notification Detail

Upgrade of NRT ROM SAF processing system on 2 June 2016
DATE:   2016-06-01 15:39
TYPE:   DATA
Description
Dear ROM SAF GTS User

Issued : 2016-06-01 15:34 UTC

As previously announced, the ROM SAF processing system will be upgraded from GPAC 0.4.0 to GPAC 0.4.1 on June 2, 2016. This system upgrade consists of code changes related to the internal format which do not affect the quality and format of the operational Level 2 products. In addition, two minor issues related to the retrieval of refractivity will be fixed. The implication of this fix is that retrieved profiles of refractivity will be less smooth.
As a result, the standard deviation will increase slightly and in the height range from 10 to 25 km it will change from about 0.50 % to 0.55 %.

The content in the BUFR files will not change, but the 1Dvar solution for occultations for which the refractivity is non-nominal will also become available with a quality flag (descriptor 0 33 039 in BUFR, bit 7) indicating that 'Meteorological processing' was non-nominal.

There will be a few changes to the content of the NetCDF files:

1) Use of ROPP 8.1:
This includes more level 2c variables (for future use) in wet and bgr files.

2) atm NetCDF files:
For nominal refractivity profiles, dry_temp_qual will be set to 100 above 8 km (currently 0); it will still be 0 below 8 km.

3) wet NetCDF files:
geop_sigma will become available (currently containing the _FillValue)
A number of diagnostics will no longer be available. This concerns the following variables:
J_bgr
J_obs
OmB
OmB_sigma
OmA
OmA_sigma
B_sigma
pge
AmB
alt_diag
J_init
minropp_exit_mode
pge_gamma

The 1Dvar solution for occultations for which the refractivity is non-nominal will also become available, but with a pcd value in the wet files indicating that the data are non-nominal.

A confirmation will be sent out after the upgrade.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding the upgrade.

Kind regards
The ROM SAF Team
