| Dear ROM SAF GTS User Issued : 2016-11-23 22:23 UTC ECMWF has implemented IFS cycle 43r1 in operations on 22 November 2016 (https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/FCST/Implementation+of+IFS+Cycle+43r1). ECMWF fields are used as background fields in the ROM SAF 1D-Var retrieval and the change to cycle 43r1 therefore has an impact on 1D-Var products. The main impact is related to the background error characterization. Within the first quarter of 2017 the background error covariance used in the ROM SAF NRT 1D-Var will be upgraded to represent the new data quality of the background profiles.
