NRT Notification Detail

Outage of GRAS level 1b data and degraded data
DATE:   2009-11-25 09:15
TYPE:   NRT-GTS
Description
Dear GRAS SAF GTS User Issued: 2009-11-25 09:15 UTC Due to an outage of GRAS level 1b data no GRAS SAF products were disseminated starting from instrument sensing time 2009-11-23 15:04:07 UTC and ending at 2009-11-23 16:54:09 UTC. Furthermore EUMETSAT experienced a small period of degraded GRAS data yesterday morning. Please see messages from EUMETSAT below. --- snip --- Subject: GRAS outage on 23 Nov 2009 Date: 2009-11-23 23:16 Dear all, unfortunately, the data downlink from the Metop-A satellite suffered a failure in the late afternoon of today. As a consequence, not Metop science data is available between (roughly) 15:05 and 16:54 UTC sensing time. For GRAS, and due to the need of the Precise Orbit Determination to converge to nominal quality, this means that level 1b data quality is non-nominal for typically four hours after the data became available again at 16:45 UTC. Our monitoring suggests that the orbit has actually already converged properly by now (for sensing times after 20:00 UTC). Nevertheless, the data will remain to be flagged as "bad" until about 01:00 UTC tomorrow, 23 Nov 2009. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause on your side. With kind regards, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany Subject: GRAS degraded data (24 Nov 2009) Date: 2009-11-24 14:03 Dear all, due to continued problems on the data downlink antennas we unfortunately experience another period of degraded GRAS data. All level 0 data from Metop was apparently corrupted between 9:53 and 10:00 UTC (sensing time) this morning. The GRAS precise orbit suffered from a mild reset, and it's quality (as that of the level 1b bending angle product) are slightly worse then the requirements allow them to be. Accordingly, the GRAS data quality flags in the disseminated GRAS products have been set and will remain to indicate degraded quality for the next 8 hours. With our apologies for the renewed outage of GRAS data, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany --- snip --- Kind regards The GRAS SAF Team
