NRT Notification Detail
| Scheduled outage/degration of GRAS level 1b data
|
DATE: 2009-12-16 13:15
TYPE: NRT-GTS

| Description
|
| Dear GRAS SAF GTS user

Issued: 2009-12-16 13:15

Due to a GRAS parameter change tomorrow, 2009-12-17, there is a chance
that GRAS SAF products will be missing or degraded. A new message will be issued
after the outage.

Please see the message from EUMETSAT below.
---snip---
Dear all,

as you know, we changed some GRAS parameters controlling the raw sampling measurement
mode on the instrument last Thursday (10 Dec), in effect extending the vertical range
of the raw sampling data. We have now collected nearly a week of this data and will
make it available to you (if you are interested) in late December or early January.

As expected, the raise in the upper boundary for the raw sampling data for rising
occultations also caused L2 measurements to not reach into the troposphere any more.
As our operational processing currently requires L2 data to be present in order
to produce level 1 data products from GRAS, this implies some degradation in our
operational products. We have therefore decided (as initially planned) to revert the
parameter settings back to their default values until our processing has been updated
to extrapolate L2 measurements as part of the ionospheric correction, and the
existing data set has been fully analyzed.

We plan to perform the configuration change tomorrow, Thursday, 17. Dec 2009, around
measurement time 09:36:40 UTC. The modification will cause a ~ 2 minute data gap.

For those of you who use our operational products, please note that the Precise Orbit
Determination system will experience a reset, with data being flagged as degraded for
up to 8 hours after the configuration change.

With kind regards,

 Christian.
