Description
Dear GRAS SAF GTS user Issued 2010-10-05 07:55 UTC Please see detailed information on todays Metop out-of-plane manoeuvre in the message from EUMETSAT below. Kind regards The GRAS SAF Team Forwarded message: Subject: GRAS: Metop manoeuvre Date: 2010-10-04 16:06 UTC From: Christian Marquardt Dear all, tomorrow, Tuesday, 05 October 2010, the Metop-A satellite will go through its annual out-of-plane manoeuvre, with a first burn scheduled for the period 12:11 - 12:21 UTC tomorrow, and the second in the very early morning (03:24 - 03:34 UTC) on the following day (Wednesday, 06 Oct 2010). The dissemination of most science data including GRAS will be stopped before the manoeuvre begins, and will recommence a few hours after the second burn. For GRAS, we will also perform an update of its configuration before the actual manoeuvre begins (around 10:30 UTC). The GRAS data dissemination will therefore terminate for measurements taken around 10:30 on 05 Oct 2010, and restart in the early morning (probably for measurements taken at or after 08:00 UTC) on 06 Oct 2010. The configuration change will make sure that GRAS will be able to measure signals from "deep occultations" down to Straight Line Tangent Altitudes (SLTAs) of -250 km; so far, the instrument stopped to make observations already at SLTAs of -140 km. An initial analysis of data gathered during a test period in December 2009 suggests that we are indeed missing valid observational data for a significant portion of the occultations GRAS is able to measure. Please note that this configuration change has no impact the current operational processing which basically neglects tropospheric data. However, reprocessed data (and in a few month, also the operational processing) will benefit from it. With kind regards, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany
