Description
Dear GRAS SAF GTS user Issued 2010-11-23 08:45 UTC Please see detailed message from EUMETSAT below concerning this weekends outage. A correction to the last message, 'dissimulation' should have read 'dissemination'. Kind regards The GRAS SAF Team Forwarded Message: Subject: RE: GRAS data degradation ongoing since 20 Nov 2010 08:57 UTC From: Christian Marquardt Date: 2010-11-22 16:45 UTC Dear all, I'm happy to let you know that the issues around the GRAS data quality have finally been fixed, and the data products are approaching nominal behaviour again. We have started the dissemination a short time ago (for sensing times after 15:51 UTC). The data will continue be flagged as degraded for another hour or two, but should be fine from then onwards. What happened was that a jump in the clock of one ground station occured on Saturday morning and affected the clock alignment process for the clock bias estimates of the GPS satellite constellation in the GSN processing. This gave rise to a rapidly increasing deviation from true GPS time, which in turn caused our operational orbit determination process to develop large along-track errors - which finally led to the degradation of the GRAS level 1 products. GSN quickly identified the cause of the problem and re-initialized their processing promptly (thanks, guys!). This allowed a successful reset on our side as well. Once more, I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience this rather long period of degradation has certainly caused on your side. In the future, we will look into ways to improve our automatic fault detection for issues like this. With kind regards, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany
