Description
Dear GRAS SAF GTS User Issued: 2011-05-02 08:00 UTC Upstream GRAS level 1 b data was degraded between 03:28 UTC and approx. 09:30 UTC on May 1, 2011. GRAS SAF data was flagged accordingly. Please see detailed message from EUMETSAT below. Kind regards The GRAS SAF Team Forwarded message: Subject : GRAS degraded data between 03:28UTC and ~ 09:30UTC on May 1, 2011 From : Christian Marquardt Date : 2011-05-01 08:37 Dear all, after a (successful) collision avoidance maneouvre of Metop-A which took place at 03:28 UTC today, 1 May 2011, GRAS data quality become severely degraded. A POD reset was performed manually later on, and the precise orbit determination is now back in a converging mode. We expect the data to be of nominal quality again around 09:30 UTC. Note that GRAS level 1 bending angle data is flagged as degraded only in the period after the POD reset (from 05:21 UTC onwards); for the first two hours, the data flagging unfortunately indicates the existing data quality problems for selected profiles only. As I'm writing to you anyway - we have observed some minor upper level biases (in the order of 1-2 microrads) in bending angles at 60 km altitudes with opposite signs for rising and setting occultations since around 00:00 UTC on 30 April 2011. There should be little impact on data below 35 km altitude. The degradation was caused by a geomagnetic storm which has by now reduced in strength again; it will not affect GRAS data after it becomes ok again later this morning. We apologize for the inconveniences, Christian. -- Dr. Christian Marquardt, Polar System Product Expert EUMETSAT, Am Kavalleriesand 31, D-64295 Darmstadt, Germany
