Description
Dear ROM SAF Data User

Issued: 2014-07-23 13:49 UTC

We are pleased to announce the availability of near real-time (NRT) level 2b and 2c 1D-Var products from the GRAS instruments on Metop-A and Metop-B. The new products are available in NetCDF and BUFR format and can be found in the ROM SAF product archive (http://www.romsaf.org/product_archive.php).

The 1D-Var products in NetCDF format are in the subdirectory called 'wet'. They are also contained in the BUFR format in the subdirectory called 'bfr'. These new products have been fully validated and validation results can be found in the 1D-Var validation report (http://www.romsaf.org/product_documents/romsaf_vr_1dvar_nrt.pdf).

Additionally, the QC procedure for the level 2a refractivity products has been changed, with the most important change being that we are now using the point-by-point 'percent confidence'/'quality value' to mark that profiles are of reduced quality below 8 km. The full QC procedure is described in the refractivity validation report (http://www.romsaf.org/product_documents/romsaf_vr_ref_nrt.pdf).

Finally, the ROM SAF now also provides the so-called 'dry temperature', which is derived from refractivity under the assumption of dry air. The dry temperature is not an official ROM SAF product, and as such it has not been subject to formal validation. It is provided as additional information for the expert user and can be found alongside the refractivity in the NetCDF files in the 'atm' subdirectory.

The new files are available since 2014-07-22 09:45 UTC sensing time, and can be distinguished by the 'N0021' indicator in the file names.

With kind regards
The ROM SAF team
